15. Home Remedies For Receding Gums



Receding gums is often one of the first signs that warn you of gum disease. When gums start receding, they create a space between your teeth and the gums and this will cause bacteria to enter the gums and start damaging the tissues.

This is a very common problem and many people are unaware that their gums are receding until they have receded to a noticeable level. Gum recession can be treated so that further damage is prevented. There are natural home remedies for receding gums that can help to stop the problem and promote better overall gum health.

1. Eat More Fruits and Vegetables
Fruits and vegetables contain a lot of nutrients such as vitamin C, which is important to maintain gum health. Vitamin C reduces inflammation from gum disease and promotes gum regeneration. Eat fresh fruits, such as strawberries and pineapple, and vegetables, such as broccoli, cauliflower, and asparagus, which are vitamin-rich foods.

2. Cranberries

Receding gums can cause a lot of pain and can bleed every time you begin to brush your teeth. Bacteria can infest the tender tissues and further erode them. It is important to curb the growth and activity of the bacteria to prevent receding gums. Cranberries have huge antibacterial properties which inhibit the bacteria from sticking to the teeth. You can eat a cup of cranberries after a meal. You can also drink fresh cranberry juice if you prefer.

3. Vitamin C


Vitamin C supports the immune system and is an effective antioxidant.  For dental problems, use calcium ascorbate - a form of Vitamin C that will not sting when applied to sore gums. It is available as a powder; simply spread on the gums and rinse after a few minutes. Success in curing receding gums has also been reported by taking Vitamin C supplements.

4. Green Tea

Taking green tea will help in reducing the damage caused to the teeth as a result of receding gums. Green tea reduces inflammation of the gums and also helps in destroying the bacteria in the mouth that can cause periodontal problems. Take a cup of green tea in the morning to keep your gums and teeth strong.

Warm salty water is known to be an useful natural treatment for the receding gums. The mouth needs to be rinsed frequently with the water so that the harmful bacteria are removed and the healthy bacteria restore themselves.

6. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera gel is well known for its many medicinal benefits. It can be used as a home remedy for receding gums for its anti inflammatory and anti bacterial properties. Use fresh aloe vera gel to brush and cleanse your mouth every morning. Use it as a mouth wash to keep your gums and teeth clean after every meal . This is very effective in healing damaged gums.

7. Clove

Cloves have been used for thousands of years as a remedy to reduce issues associated with oral infections and with damaged or decaying teeth. Clove oil is a powerful antimicrobial, antiseptic and anti-fungal agent that helps to cleanse the oral cavity and stimulate the repair and growth of any tissues that have been damaged, including receding gums.

When used frequently, clove oil helps to stop bacterial action and disinfect the mouth. Apply clove oil to a clean finger or a soft-bristled toothbrush and massage this into the gums once a day.


8. Coconut Oil

Being antimicrobial in nature, coconut oil too is a great remedy for treating receding gums and the cause behind it. Take some virgin coconut oil and swish your mouth with it after brushing your teeth. This will give your teeth the necessary cover for protection against disease causing bacteria and germs and also prevent food particles and germs from sticking between and on the teeth and causing decay. Coconut oil can be used every day as a prevention method for receding gums and also for general oral hygiene.
 
9. Eucalyptus Oil


Eucalyptus is an essential oil that prevents gum disease and tooth decay, and it kills germs to prevent the diseases that cause gum recession. This oil also works to reduce gum swelling due to its anti-inflammatory properties.

This oil has to be diluted with water because straight eucalyptus oil should not be applied to tissues like the gums. Take a little bit of the mixture on a clean finger or on a soft-bristled toothbrush and massage the gums with it for a few minutes. This helps to reduce gum recession and it stimulates new tissue growth.

10. Lemon Oil

Lemon has mild antiseptic qualities and is also an excellent antibacterial agent. However, direct application of lemon every day is not recommended as it can corrode the enamel. Lemon oil can be acquired or prepared at home by infusing olive oil with lemon for a few weeks. This oil can be used for swishing your mouth first thing in the morning. Lemon oil helps in killing all the bacteria and prevents gum recession and tooth decay as well. Lemon also stimulates tissue formation and can encourage new tissues to grow in the place of damaged ones. 

11. Mustard Oil

Mustard oil has variegated medicinal uses. It has huge nourishing and stimulating properties that increase blood circulation and strengthen the gums. Its antibacterial properties eradicate the disease causing bacteria and leave the mouth and gums free from infection. Mix one teaspoon of mustard oil with a quarter teaspoon of salt. Massage your gums and teeth with it for five minutes every morning and at night before going to bed.

12. Sesame Oil

Sesame oil helps to reduce plaque buildup and it removes toxic substances from the oral cavity. Plaque buildup and toxins can contribute to receding gums. You need a quarter of a cup of this oil and then use it as a mouthwash, swishing it around in your mouth for about 30 seconds before brushing your teeth. You can still use your regular mouthwash and pre-brush rinse too.

To improve plaque and toxin removal and to encourage better absorption, the oil can be slightly warmed, but never hot. Warmed sesame oil also helps to prevent dental decay and gum recession because it provides a protective coating on the gums.

13. Tea Tree Oil

This essential oil is known to be an effective natural remedy of the receding gums. This oil can work wonders in dealing with the gum ailments. With the use of the oil, the bacterial infection is arrested at the root in its path which is thought as the first indispensable step towards the healthy gums.

To add to it, with the application of the oil on the teeth, the sensitivity to cold and heat of the teeth and the pain of the tooth can be eliminated. This essential oil needs to be applied just after the brushing of the teeth. With the application of tea tree oil, the gum infection is thwarted, the gums are strengthened and made firm and thereby the normal state of the teeth is returned.
 
14. Echinacea
This herbal product is quite popular for boosting the immune and helps in fighting with foreign bodies. This is mixed with warm water and used as a mouth wash on a daily basis in morning and night. These are some popular homely cares that can be used on a day to day basis. Some herbal products can be used on an exercise basis .Some are on a preferable basis. There are several products available in the market, but the natural remedies are the best ones as compared to the artificial ones.

15. Fresh Coriander

Coriander leaves have enormous medicinal values. It is rich in vitamins A and C and iron and potassium. Its antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties get rid of infection very quickly and efficaciously. Chew some fresh coriander leaves every morning and after every meal. The pain and tooth sensitivity will go away and your gums will become strong and healthy and they will stop receding.
