Home remedies for breast cancer include garlic, broccoli, grapes, wheatgrass, green tea, lignans, soybean, vitamin D, calcium, and a well-balanced diet. Breast cancer refers to the malignant growth of tissues of the breast. These can be categorized as ductal, lobular, or inflammatory based on the place of origin. It can be caused due to consumption of alcoholic beverages, radiation therapy of the breast, a first child being born at an old age, old age, intake of progesterone or estrogen, and a number of other unspecified health factors and behavioral habits.

Breast cancer can be detected by several early symptoms, some of which include regular discharge from the nipple and nipples becoming inverted. Home remedies for breast cancer are available, not necessarily to cure breast cancer, but to boost the immune system or kill the cancerous tissues to a certain extent. Still, proper  lifestyle and eating habits are recommended for longevity and survival rate improvement of breast cancer patients.

1. Broccoli


Broccoli contains cancer-fighting compounds known as indole-3-carbinol that help alter estrogen metabolism and suppress breast tumor cell growth. They also protect against hormone-dependent cancers such as breast, cervix, and prostate cancer.

Eating one-half cup of broccoli daily can help protect against breast cancer. Raw broccoli supplies more health benefits than cooked broccoli. Along with broccoli, try to include other cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, kale and cauliflower in your diet.

2. Exercise


Research suggests that exercising an hour daily reduces the risk of contracting breast cancer in women of any age and any weight. Research also suggests that physical activity and healthy diet may help to reduce risk of cancer.

3. Calcium


It is important to consume calcium, especially in the pre-menopausal period for women. It has been shown to reduce breast cancer risk in a number of different studies. Foods rich in calcium are canned salmon, orange juice, almonds and green vegetables.

4. Flax Seed


Flax seed contains high levels of lignans that protect against estrogen-dependent cancers like breast cancer. Flax seed and flax seed oil are among the few sources of the essential omega-3 fatty acid ALA, which forms a protective shield against cancer cells responsible for breast cancer.

You can add powdered flax seed to yogurt or a smoothie to create a richer and nutty flavor. You can also add flax seed oil to salad dressings or integrate it into baked goods, such as cookies or muffins.

5. Garlic


Studies have found that the sulfur compounds, flavones and flavonoids present in garlic help in preventing breast cancer. It is also effective in killing cancer cells associated with breast, mouth, stomach and colon cancer. To get the most benefits, peel and chop the garlic cloves and let them sit for about 15 minutes before cooking. You can also crush and swallow a piece of garlic every morning to increase your chance of living a cancer-free life..

6. Grapes


Grapes contain a compound called proanthocyanidins that reduces the body’s estrogen production. This results in the effective treatment of breast cancer, as is evident from the clinical trials performed over several breast cancer patients. The study showed that the extract of grapes affects breast cancer tumors that are hormone-sensitive. A drug called doxorubicin was also found to enhance its anti-tumor activity by consuming grapes juice or extract everyday as a supplemental treatment.

7. Pomegranate


US researchers have found that pomegranate contains natural compounds like urolithin B that suppress estrogen prevent the growth of hormone-responsive breast cancer tumors. Plus, it is packed with polyphenols like ellagic acid with antioxidant properties that reduce the effect of estrogen in promoting the growth of breast cancer.

Pomegranate makes a delicious and healthy addition to any fruit salad and many fruit desserts. You can include pomegranate in any breast cancer prevention diet, in either fruit or juice form. It is believed that the juice has a higher concentration of antioxidants than the fruit.

8. Lignans

Lignans are present in the seeds of sunflower, cashews, strawberries, flax seed, and peanuts. These compounds prevent estrogen-dependent  tumors by slowing down their rate of growth and progression. Any of these items can be incorporated in the daily diet chart and should be used as frequently as possible.

9. Salmon


Salmon is an oily fish that contains a good amount of omega-3 fatty acids that slow the growth of cancerous tumors and boost the immune  system. At the same time, salmon is a lean protein and a good source of vitamins B12 and D. All these elements provide your body with the nutrients required to regulate cell growth and prevent cancer.

You can eat salmon steamed, baked or grilled. For best results, eat three-ounce servings of fresh salmon two times a week. Along with salmon, other oily fishes that help prevent breast cancer are mackerel, sardines, trout, sea bass and tuna.

10. Soybean


This is one of the known dietary elements that are considered to be an absolute must for breast cancer patients. According to the MD Anderson Cancer Center, it contains phytoestrogens and several other entities that block cancerous cells from using estrogen. It also contains  is flavones needed for the prevention of cancer at early stages. It can be taken either as sprouts or as a cooked vegetable.

11. Spinach


Spinach contains the antioxidant lutein that plays a key role in guarding against breast cancer along with mouth, esophagus and stomach cancer. It is also rich in zeaxanthin and carotenoids that remove unstable molecules called free radicals from your body before they cause damage. Women must eat spinach a few times a week in order to reduce the risk of breast cancer. Spinach can be enjoyed in salads, soups, steamed or sautéed. Along with spinach, eat other green leafy vegetables like kale, collard greens, Swiss chard and romaine lettuce.
